The show might be over, but the memories are now officially set in stone!
On Friday, the pavement artwork designed by bro’Town’s designer Ant Sang was officially unveiled at the Morningside Station by the show’s creators.
Popular images from bro’Town have completely transformed the station’s vibe, creating a kiwi identity for the iconic New Zealand show that was set in the ‘fictional’ suburb of Morningside.
Four large, colourful images capturing the show’s liveliness and humor are spread out on the platform, making it almostimpossible for commuters to miss them.
Two of the shots referenced the Series 4 episode ‘Yes Prime Minister’, when the boys took the train to Wellington. The other two shots included their motto ‘Morningside 4 Life.’
The creators of bro’Town were present for the opening along with local councilors, community board representatives and children from nearby Kowhai Intermediate who were thrilled by the station’s makeover!
bro’Town writer/performer Oscar Kightley says,
“When one imagines the great train stations of the world one thinks of Grand Central in New York and Paddington Station inLondon. This addition elevatesMorningside train station to those same lofty echelons … to me.”
The station is being revamped in the lead up to the 2010 Rugby World Cup, where over 10,000 people will be traveling through, chairman of the Auckland Regional Transport Authority, Rabin Rabindran said,
“There is not a better identifier than to have images of bro’Town for this station. It portrays a wickedly, irreverent, exuberant, depiction of life in Auckland.”
Now ‘Morningside 4 life’ is a permanent fixture!
