It was no ordinary Sunday for bro’Towners Oscar, Elizabeth and Teuila who got to share a traditional Maori hangi with the ‘good guy’ HRH Prince William last weekend.
They joined 60 other guests at Government House for the island-themed gathering which was the Prince’s first experience of a traditional Maori hangi. He asked for salmon!
The bro’Town crew were actually the first guests to meet the Prince, who was introduced to them by His Excellency, the Governer General Sir Anand Satyanand (who featured in a Series 4 episode of bro’Town - Yes Prime Minister)
“We told him that his dad had been in the show when we ambushed him in Auckland back in 2005”, said writer/performer Oscar Kightley.
“He had no idea his father had appeared in a cartoon so I hope he enjoys watching the DVD”.
HRH Prince Charles appeared in the Series episode, Morning Side Story.
The bro’Town gang the Prince a personalised bro’Town hoodie, as well as hoodies for his father and his brother, Prince Harry.
Kiwi Musicians Dave Dobbyn and Che Fu entertained the crowd, and Oscar brought the house down with his impromptu introduction.
“I can’t remember the last time I sat in the garden with a Prince getting wasted and listening to Enya!” Oscar said, and the audience erupted with good natured laughter!
Prince William told reporters that his time in New Zealand was "fantastic.”
“Very welcoming, very warm, very fun and I wish I wasn't going."
The prince is hoping to return for 2011 Rugby World Cup.
